Henry Smeaton Mattresses

The Smeaton name has been synonymous with luxury British-handmade mattresses since 1893.

The new Platinum collection from Henry Smeaton is available in 6 different spring counts (up to 8700 individual pocket and tablet springs) together with a choice of gentle, medium or firm feels.

Every component – from the pocketed springs to the Damask covering, wool, silk and cashmere layers, and hand tufting – is meticulously handcrafted to ensure supreme comfort and support.

Are Henry Smeaton mattresses handmade?

Yes, each Henry Smeaton mattress is handmade to order. They are built and constructed by hand, stitched using handheld machines and tufted using mattress needles.

How can a mattress contain over 8000 individual springs?

Depending on the required feel a sleeper needs, a Henry Smeaton mattress can contain anything from 1000 to over 8000 springs.

This is achieved in two ways (1) by double and sometimes triple decking the layers of springs. (2) By including tablet springs which are small individual pocketed spring decks.

This is the reason Henry Smeaton mattresses should not be bent and also why they are so heavy.

What if me and my partner are a different build and require a different grade firmness?

Our weights, height and size can be vastly different from our partners yet we seem to just accept that we should sleep on the same mattress type, even though it doesn’t suit our needs. Catering to both partner’s needs, we can make a mattress with a different feel on either side that suits you – Dual Feel.

What is 'dual feel'?

It’s quite a simple concept, two separate mattresses are put together to form one. Each mattress is entirely independent of each other, so you can pick each side to suit the needs of both partners. So if one partner is of a slight build and the other partner is of a heavy build, both can have their ideal mattress.
