19th century gothic revival architect AWN Pugin was against any minutiae that didn’t “have a meaning or serve a purpose”. In other words, fancy embellishments that were there for the sake of it.

In 30 years of designing and hand-building solid wooden beds in our Nottinghamshire workshop, Revival Beds have applied this philosophy to every single bed, none more so than our handsome four-poster beds and particularly the Winchester four-poster gothic bed. Every single feature serves a purpose, resulting in a handsome, solid wooden four-poster bed that’s a joy to behold.

William Morris echoed this belief with his famous saying: “Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be beautiful or believe to be useful”, which is why it seemed appropriate to dress our four-poster Winchester bed in Morris-designed hand-stitched drapes and bedding, just one of the many quality fabrics available to you.

Pictured in the Old Wood finish, the Winchester four-poster gothic bed is available with or without a solid wood canopy and underbed storage drawers and can be crafted in any of our natural wood finishes, including solid oak.

The Winchester four poster bed is also available as a standard bed frame (non-four-poster). Both designs are also available up to Caesar size and come complete with a 10-year guarantee.

Because every single bed in our collection is handmade individually, a custom or made-to-measure bed can be whatever size you like: width, length and height. We can even arrange for a bespoke mattress – and custom-made furniture and bed linen.

Our optional underbed storage drawers are the perfect place to store away bedding, duvets, jumpers... anything. Our beds are available with 2 or 4 underbed storage drawers, (depending on design) which are the size of a large suitcase and provide up to 16 cubic feet of ample storage space.

  • 2 drawers are available for all sleigh beds (2x5cu.ft. = 10cu.ft)
  • 4 drawers are available for all other bed designs (4x4cu.ft. = 16cu.ft)
