Wooden Beds FAQ

What Wood Do You Use in Your Solid Wooden Beds?

Our wooden beds are handcrafted in oak or pine, depending on your needs.

Our oak beds are made using 150 to 200-year-old European oak, which has been selected for its great looks, durability, and sturdiness.

Thanks to these characteristics, oak is widely considered the best wood for beds.

However, if you’re looking for a lower-cost alternative that offers similar levels of durability, we also offer pine beds.

Our pine beds use a combination of two different species, Quebec Yellow and Scandinavian Redwood.

This unique recipe allows us to achieve the best balance of strength, stability, and design, making it the perfect alternative to oak for those on a smaller budget.

Whatever material you choose, you can exact the same levels of love and care into every aspect of your wooden bed frame.

Our wooden bed frames are available in various popular styles that suit any room or decor – all available in oak or pine.

These include:

The most popular styles are four-poster beds and sleigh beds, which offer lavish and timeless designs that will catch the eye.

Many of our wooden bed frames come with optional under-bed storage.

Depending on the bed design, this storage can be added to your bed with 2 or 4 drawers, providing up to 16 cubic feet of space.

Most of our wooden bed frames come in up to seven standard sizes, from single beds to 8-foot-wide Caesars.

Our standard sizes include the following:

  • Single – 3’0” wide x 6’3” long (90 x 190cm)
  • Double – 4’6” wide x 6’3” long (135 x 190cm)
  • Kingsize – 5’0” wide x 6’6” long (150 x 200cm)
  • Super Kingsize – 6’0” wide x 6’6” long (180 x 200cm)
  • Eastern King – 6’6” wide x 6’6” long (200cm x 200cm)
  • Emperor – 7’0” wide x 6’6” long (213cm x 200cm)
  • Caesar – 8’0” wide x 6’6” long (243cm x 200cm)

As our wooden bed frames are all made-to-order, we can offer bespoke sizing to fit your needs, including extra-long beds.

Our solid oak beds come in standard natural oak for the signature timeless look people love.

Meanwhile, our solid pine bed frames can be polished with four natural wax finishes for a stunning look to suit any room.

These finishes include:

  • Kenilworth – Perfect for imitating the look of natural oak.
  • Old wood – A slightly darker finish that is ideal for bringing out the warmth of real wood.
  • Antique mahogany – Ideal for getting an antique wood appearance, with its signature rich, dark, and strong look.
  • Walnut – Our darkest finish that lends itself perfectly to traditional interiors.

Our natural wax finishes can also be applied to our solid oak beds.

Yes, wooden beds make excellent bed frames. They’ve been a popular choice for centuries and offer unrivalled sturdiness and durability. With proper care, some wooden beds can last a lifetime.

Although wooden beds can creak, usually due to loose joints, screws, and bolts, our wooden bed frames are made to be creak-free with a squeak-free guarantee.

If your old bed is squeaking, you can fix it by following this guide to identifying and fixing a squeaky bed frame.

In our experience, wooden beds are far better than metal beds. Although metal beds are cheaper, wooden beds provide better comfort, personalisation, style, and longevity.

You can learn more about wooden beds vs metal beds in our blog post.

Revival Beds are built to last a lifetime with proper care. We use time-honoured techniques and high-quality wood handcrafted by experts. You can also expect decades of use from all of our wooden bedroom furniture.
