Choosing between a pine and an oak bed usually comes down to the look you prefer and the price you are comfortable with. Both are suitable materials for a well-made bed. At Revival Beds, our oak and pine beds are made using the same construction methods and come with the same 10-year guarantee.
Here are the practical points to consider before choosing.
What is the difference between oak and pine?
Oak is a hardwood and pine is a softwood. Oak is the more expensive timber, while pine offers a lower price point. Both are used to make our handcrafted bed frames, so the choice is mainly about personal preference and budget.
If you would like to explore the ranges, see our oak beds and pine beds. Our separate guide to pine bed frames explains more about the pine we use.

Will the bed frame be the same size as the mattress?
The stated bed size refers to the mattress it is designed to fit. The frame’s outside dimensions will be larger, and the amount depends on the design. Check the measurements for the exact bed you are considering, then compare them with the usable space in your room. Our bed-frame size guide explains the mattress sizes and frame measurements.
What if access to the bedroom is difficult?
A large bed needs to fit through the route into the bedroom as well as fit the room itself. We check customers’ access before delivery and installation. If you have a narrow staircase, tight turn or restricted landing, tell us while discussing your order so we can consider the bed and mattress together.
A zip-link mattress can help where one full-size mattress would be difficult to manoeuvre. Read our guide to bed sizes, access and delivery for more detail.
Which finish should you choose?
The timber is only part of the decision; the finish changes the overall look too. Pine in our Old Wood finish and natural oak have been popular choices in recent years. Pine in Walnut has become more popular this year as tastes and bedroom trends have shifted.
Finish can be difficult to judge in a photograph, especially on a small phone screen. You can compare the colours at home with our free wood samples or book a showroom visit to see and feel the timber in person.
Is oak worth paying more for?
Oak costs more because it is a hardwood. Pine is a more affordable softwood, and both are suitable for our handcrafted beds. Since our oak and pine frames use the same construction methods and carry the same 10-year guarantee, choose the one whose appearance and price feel right for you.
If you have had a bed that did not last as long as expected, it is understandable to feel frustrated about choosing again. Looking beyond small product photographs can help: ask about the materials, construction and guarantee, and compare the actual finishes before deciding.
