A statement bed can set the tone for a bedroom, but it still needs to work in the room. The shape, height and finish should suit the space, and the frame should leave enough room to move around it. Use these points to compare designs before choosing.
Start with the shape
A four-poster draws the eye upwards and gives the bed a strong presence. A sleigh bed makes a statement through its curved headboard and footboard, while a framed bed can stand out through its proportions, detailing or finish. Think about the style of the room and the effect you want the bed to have. A striking frame can work in a calm setting; the rest of the furniture does not need to compete with it.
Look at the headboard and footboard
The headboard is often the first detail you notice. Consider its height, shape and any carving, panelling or leather detail. A tall headboard can suit a room with generous wall and ceiling space, while a lower profile may feel more balanced in a smaller room. Footboards also affect how open the bed feels and how easy it is to walk past. Check the product photos and dimensions rather than judging from the mattress size alone.

Choose a wood and finish for the room
Solid wood brings its own grain and variation, so two pieces finished in the same colour may not look identical. Compare the finish with your floor, bedside furniture and natural light. If you are deciding between finishes, order wood samples to see the wood in person.
Check the frame dimensions and access
Bed-size names describe the mattress, not the full outside measurement of the frame. Check the width and length on the product page, along with the headboard and footboard details. Measure the room, ceiling height and route into the house, including stairs, landings and doorways. Our bed-frame size guide explains mattress sizes; use each product page for the bed’s overall measurements.
Compare the options on each bed
Available finishes, footboard styles and storage vary by model. The County Clare is available in solid oak or solid pine, with a choice of high or low footboard and optional under-bed storage. The Parisienne Sleigh Bed is also available in solid oak or solid pine, with storage as an option. The Quebec Pencil Bed combines a pencil-post frame with a choice of wood and leather colours. Check the current product page for dimensions and the full list of options before ordering.

Make the rest of the room support the bed
Once you have chosen the frame, keep the surrounding pieces in proportion. Bedside cabinets, lighting and bedding can reinforce the look without drawing attention away from it. If the bed has a tall headboard or a broad footboard, leave enough clear floor space for drawers, doors and everyday movement.
See the finishes before you decide
A bed should feel right in the room as well as look right on screen. Explore the wooden bed collection to compare styles, request wood samples or book a showroom visit for advice on finishes, sizes and access.
