Emperor mattresses are 7’0’ wide and 6’6” long. Most of our handmade wooden beds are also available in emperor size, but the footprint of our beds is always bigger than the equivalent-sized mattress because the mattress sits within the bed frame.

Yes. Caesar mattresses are the next size up from emperor and they are 8’0″ wide and 6’6″ long.

A large mattress would be anything from super king-size. We would recommend a zip-link mattress for this size to ensure our delivery and installation team can get the mattress up your stairs.

Having a zip-link mattress also means it’s not too heavy, so you’ll be able to rotate it easily. A zip-link emperor mattress would be two mattresses that zip together in the middle (2 x 3’5” wide by 6’6”).

Our luxury emperor mattresses start at around £2,964 and increase to £4,348, depending on your chosen model.

But our two best-selling models have some slight differences.

Although both are handcrafted in the UK and use premium materials, the Henry Smeaton Diamond mattresses have more high-density pocket springs and use 100% natural latex. 

Latex mattresses are able to better conform to your body weight and push it back up to provide more uplifting support. They also recover more quickly than memory foam to give more support on the mattress edge.

If you’ve seen our Henry Smeaton Diamond 11000 Mattress, you might be wondering what the number refers to.

The number in our product names refers to the number of pocket springs in the mattress. 

So, this means our Diamond 11000 mattress has 11,000 pocket springs, while our Henry Smeaton Platinum 3700 mattress has 3,700 pocket springs.

Our other products include:

• Henry Smeaton Platinum 5700 mattress, which has 5,700 pocket springs
• Henry Smeaton Diamond 7000 mattress, which has 7,000 pocket springs. 

More pocket springs usually mean more comfort, as a higher spring count allows sections of the spring unit to act independently. This means you can get more personalised support for better comfort. 

However, pocket springs do not impact firmness. Our emperor mattresses come in a range of firmness options so you can get the perfect night’s sleep for you. 

Our mattresses come in four different levels of firmness; soft, medium, firm, or extra-firm.

The Henry Smeaton Diamond 11000 mattress has a medium firmness, while the Henry Smeaton Diamond 7000 mattress has a choice of medium or firm. 

The tension of the springs can be modified to dictate the levels of firmness.
