Furnishing a short-stay property starts with the rooms you have, the guests you want to accommodate and the amenities you promise in your listing. Use this room-by-room checklist as a planning aid, then adapt it to the property, length of stay, available space and access.

Bedroom

  • Bed and mattress: choose a size that suits the room and the sleeping arrangements described in your listing. Check the route into the property as well as the space around the bed. Browse wooden beds and mattresses.
  • Bedside surface and light: provide a reachable place for guests’ belongings and a light they can use from the bed.
  • Clothes storage: consider a wardrobe, hanging space or drawers to suit the likely length of stay. See solid wood wardrobes and chests of drawers.
  • Dressing space: a dresser or mirror can be useful when the room has space for it. Browse dressing tables and mirrors.
  • Extra bedding: if you supply spare pillows or blankets, leave guests a clear place to find them. A blanket box can provide storage.

Living room

  • Seating: choose seating that fits the room and matches the capacity and sleeping arrangements stated in your listing.
  • Table or clear surface: give guests somewhere to put drinks, books or other belongings while they relax.
  • Lighting: combine the main room light with a lamp where it suits the layout.
  • Entertainment and storage: if you provide a television or other equipment, include a suitable stand or storage and describe what is available accurately.

Dining and kitchen

  • Dining space: provide a table and seating that fit the property and the number of guests your listing describes. In a smaller home, a dining table may also provide a place to work.
  • Kitchen equipment: supply the cookware, dishes, cutlery and appliances that you say guests can use. Items such as a kettle, toaster, washing machine or dishwasher depend on the property and the facilities you offer.

Entrance, bathroom and laundry

  • Entrance: consider coat hooks and a clear place for bags or shoes if the layout allows.
  • Bathroom: provide practical storage for toiletries and towels, and a mirror where it is useful.
  • Laundry: for longer stays, decide whether laundry equipment, a drying rack or a laundry basket is appropriate for your property.
