An extra-long bed can give a taller sleeper more space, or suit the proportions of a larger bedroom. At Revival Beds, our wooden bed frames are handmade to order, so we can discuss a longer version of an existing design and alterations to its width or height.
The useful starting point is the mattress size you want the frame to hold. The outside dimensions of a sleigh bed or four-poster will be larger than the mattress, so allow space for the complete bed, surrounding furniture and a clear route around it.
Start with the mattress length
Standard UK mattress lengths vary by width. Our bed frame size guide explains the sizes our frames normally accommodate and the option of a bed made for a mattress up to 8 ft long. Tell us your preferred mattress width and length together, rather than ordering a frame by its outside dimensions.
We can also discuss a matching made-to-measure mattress and bedding. All Henry Smeaton mattresses are handmade to order; ask us which construction and handling arrangement suits your chosen dimensions. For a particularly large or heavy mattress, a zip-link option may make access and moving it easier. We will talk through the recommendation with you before you order.

Measure the room and the route in
Mark out the full footprint of the design you like, including its headboard, footboard or posts. Check that nearby doors and furniture can be used and that there is a comfortable route past the bed.
Measure the stair width, landings, turns and doorways on the route to the bedroom, especially any tight point. Our beds are made in sections and assembled in the room by the delivery team, but the mattress needs its own access check. Share any concerns when enquiring so we can discuss the design and mattress arrangement before delivery day.

Choose the design and finish
An extra-long bed can be based on a sleigh bed, four-poster bed or another suitable design. You can also ask about changes to the headboard or footboard and our colour-matching service. The exact options depend on the design and materials, so we will confirm what is possible for your order.
If you would like to see the craftsmanship and compare finishes in person, book a showroom visit. You can also send a bespoke enquiry with your preferred design, mattress dimensions, room measurements and any access concerns. We can then discuss the frame, mattress and bedding together.
