The Provence
Rows of carefully tended vines, prickly olive trees, fresh juicy figs… Provence is a garden of home-grown gastronomic treats. Village markets brimming with fresh produce, cool stone-built 'caves' where you can sample the local wines... Like our beautiful hand-made solid wooden Provence bed, you're about as far away from bland mass production as you can get.
Your sleigh bed – reassuringly old-fashioned in its construction
In the heat of a Provence summer, nothing is rushed. People retreat into cool rooms behind slatted wooden shutters. Tiled floors, simple rustic plastering, Boutique hotel style warm reds and dark woods, French country style ceramics and iron work… Exactly the kind of setting you'd expect to find the gorgeous Provence sleigh bed.
An unhurried attitude towards life is something we also encourage at Revival Beds. Unlike those 'roll them out, pile them high' far eastern imports, our English craftsmen take their time to construct your bed – and everything is carried out by hand, even down to the subtle distressed, waxed and polished finish.
Each component - from the three individual solid wooden panels on the head and footboard to the single piece of timber used for the scrolls on the legs - has been lovingly crafted and hand-set into position. Even the slats on the low slung base are spaced to correctly support a pocket sprung mattress. Nothing has been left to chance.
Much more goes into your sleigh bed than you’d think
Here's another thing. Unless we told you, you'd never guess that the Provence bed is made from two different kinds of timber. The panels are made from Quebec yellow pine recognised for its stability whereas the rails are made from load-bearing Scandinavian redwood. It's yet another feature you won't find on 'pile them high' mass produced imports.
All Revival Beds also come in a full range of widths – from a single 3 foot bed through to double, super-king sized and above. However the Provence sleigh bed is great for what we call 'in-between sizes': a 6 '6" beds and the 4ft or three quarter bed.
Where does our timber come from?
Unmanaged tropical deforestation is bad news for our planet – and it's never been more important to ensure that timber comes from sustainable, managed sources. With cheap mass-produced imported furniture or flat-packs, it can be impossible to prove the origin of the wood. Thankfully, when you buy a Revival Bed, you can be 100% confident that every piece of timber has come from sustainable, managed forests.
All timber arrives at our workshops as rough sawn wood. Each piece carries its own distinct mill mark, making it easy for us to check the country of origin, even down to the name of the local mill. So you can sleep peacefully knowing the raw materials used in your Revival Bed are helping to keep our planet safe and sound.
