The Tall Mackintosh
What would we do without modern technology? Well, precisely what our craftsmen and designers do at Revival Beds when creating beautiful hand-made bedroom furniture. Our Mackintosh bed is a prime example of the quality and attention to detail that goes into a craftsman-made bed, built using techniques that have been trusted for generations.
A hand-made bed with more than just a few little design extras
As focal points go, the tall Mackintosh bed takes some beating. Inspired by the famous 'Arts & Crafts' Scottish designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh, it features an astonishing array of hand-crafted detailing that starts with the subtly shaped central slats on the head and footboard and ends with the elegant iron handles on the drawers and wardrobes.
Look closely at the crazed ceramic tile inlays, featured on the bed and echoed on the matching chests of drawers and blanket box. Each tile is individually crafted by the tile experts at Clayworth Pottery, famous for their architectural restoration work at the Harrogate Spa and the London Underground.
Then there's the blackwork detailing to each side of the crackle-glazed tiles on the head and footboards - yet another element that results in a handmade bed of uncompromising quality.
Own your own 'Arts & Crafts' style bed
Original Mackintosh beds exchange hands for huge sums of money making ownership impossible for all but the very wealthy. What is possible, however, is to own a handmade bed inspired by Mackintosh and built using similar time-honoured techniques. Even the original design was drafted using good old fashioned pencil and paper, just like in Arts & Crafts days.
Part of the beauty of Mackintosh-inspired furniture is its height - beds and contrasting furniture are tall and elegant. But because not all bedrooms are the same size, our Mackintosh beds come in a wide range of widths (up to 8 feet) and also a choice of bed head heights: 1845mm (the 'Tall' Macintosh) and 1445mm (the 'Little' Mackintosh). But whether you go for the Tall or the Little Mackintosh, the open slat construction gives this beautiful pine bed an airy, balanced feel.
