A hotel room to remember

County_kerry_four_poster_painted_black

The Kings Arms in Amersham had a recent upgrade which included a black painted County Kerry four poster bed.

The 14th century coaching house has undergone many changes over the years with none more dramatic than this.

Mixing traditional and contemporary influences can be a skill that is easily underestimated but interior designers Curtis Interiors seem to have pulled this off with aplomb.

The easy option would have been to choose from the ‘usual suspects’ of bed suppliers and play it safe.

Not Curtis Interiors, they went for a new twist.

Take a 14th century bedroom a blow the dust right out!

Purple upolstery, black furnishings and no grim light sapping wall finishes. Crown the the whole look with a black painted/lacqured four poster and ‘ding dong’ what a room to remember.

If you need more information on the contract work we have directly or indirectly undertaken give a call 01777 869669 and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Planning your bedroom layout

GET YOUR FACTS TOGETHER

Common problems faced when you start to change your bedroom around is underestimating the actual size of your new furniture.

All the actual sizes (footprint) for the beds and furniture can be found on the pages of the website. Also our brochure contains illustrations and sizes for every piece of furniture we make.

STEP BY STEP PLANNING

1.  Remember to ensure you can easily open any nearby doors and windows.

2. Remember to include your existing furniture in any plans you are drawing up.

3.  Remember to consider the position electric sockets and wall lights.

4.  Remember furniture has drawers and doors that need room to open.

THE SUNDAY NEWSPAPER TRICK

If you are not too sure how much room you will have once your new funiture is in situ we recommend laying out a Sunday newspaper to the exact size. This gives you the exact footprint  so you can make some accurate discisions on what size bed you can actually fit in your bedroom, or if your wardrobe will comfortably fit in the desired location.

Asking the the right questions at this stage of the process saves lots of time and money so MEASURE TWICE CUT ONCE!!!

Understanding Revival Paint Finishes

This version of the Revival beds website went live in January 2008. Since then there have been several improvements to the way we hand finish (paint, wax, lacquer, stain). Many of these improvements haven’t reached our brochure or the website yet so I’m going to try and clarify them now.

Paint finishes:
Pre 2011 we only offered heavily distressed paint finishes. This finish had faux woodworm with paint rubbed away at the corners and on the knots plus knocks and dints to replicate heavy usage. However styles change and customers were asking for paint finishes with none or very little distressing to fit in with a cleaner modern interior style.
To keep up with demand we now offer three different levels of distressing to our paint finishes, examples of which we can post to you.

1.    Heavily Distressed: Corners are rubbed back and faux woodworm is added plus the hand waxing gives the furniture an aged look that fits in well with old and antique style interiors. This is a long process but the results can be stunning in the right setting. This finish looks great on furniture going in to older properties.
2.    Lightly Distressed: The rubbing back here is minimal and the paint finish is a little more pristine but not perfect. The good thing here is if you do accidentally knock into your furniture the odd extra scratch will not stand out too much. This sort of a finish will mix and match with almost any style interior.
3.    Block Finish: Like new; this is the perfect paint finish with no added sanding, wood worm or distressing. The only texture you will see are brush strokes as every piece is meticulously painted by hand. If there is a bit of the obsessive in you and you simply want things to be as near perfect as possible choose a block paint finish.

If you need to talk about your paint preferences but are unclear about what’s on offer don’t hesitate to give our office a call 01777 869669 and order some colour samples and chat to an advisor. Alternatively why not send for a full colour brochure.

Handmade in the U.K.

Revival beds would like to extend our thanks to all the customers who  made the journey to visit us at our Nottinghamshire factory or bought  beds and furniture over phone.

This year more people enjoyed the opportunity to see us and buy Revival beds and furniture with the guarantee that the timber used has been ethically sourced and hand built here in the U.K.

Paula W (Cambridge) – “These days to actually see the the furniture in full production is a heart warming experience”.

David R (Bolton) – “The first thing to hit you is the smell of the wax and the wood; you know you have arrived at a real workshop.

FREE tea!

It’s a bit of a surprise for those who make the trip and find they have to negotiate a working factory; sanding booths and spray booths not to mention the manufacturing workshop. It’s a far cry from the swanky department stores with escalators and bistro’s but the tea’s and coffee’s are FREE!

What’s on show?

With eight beds, five four poster beds plus masses of furniture in production and a full range of U.K. made mattresses on show there is always plenty to look at; plus, it’s an ideal opportunity to discuss any special requirements you may need.

Showroom extension for 2011

With a New Year approaching we can now confirm our factory showroom will be extended in 2011.  Customers can see even more Revival beds in the flesh together with our new range storage cupboards, cabin style single beds and wall mirrors.

Appointment times
Monday – Friday 9.30am 4.30pm
Saturday – 9.30am –3.30pm

We look forward to welcoming you in 2011

Do you know where the timber for your furniture came from?

Let’s face it not many of us do.

Good News

A recent Government report showed that illegal logging is down by between 50 and 75% over the last decade, and consumption of illegal logging was down by around 30%, – this is the timber that is illegally sourced from, and processed in another country.

Sam Lawson, the report’s lead author, made plain that illegal logging remains a major problem despite these impressive gains.

Bad News

“That (50-75%) sounds like a lot; but bear in mind that illegal logging was such a bad problem in those countries that even though it’s reduced substantially, it still is a bad problem. So in Indonesia, for example, 40% of the harvesting is still illegal,” he told BBC News.

The finger seemed to point directly at China and Japan; proposing that they should follow E.U. and U.S. guidelines like the ones that bought about the improvements in countries like Cameroon, Brazilian Amazon, and Indonesia.

The report urges Japan, as the country that imports the highest per-capita amount of illegal wood, to pass similar legislation.

“China is increasingly important [as an importer], but not just for its own consumption,” said Mr Lawson. “It is increasingly acting as a processing country, the factory of the world; so a lot of the illegally sourced wood that ends up in Europe and the US passes through Chinese factories.”

The report urges China, along with fellow “factory of the world” Vietnam, to ban illegal timber imports and mandate a policy that all timber used in government projects is shown to be legally sourced.

What’s the benefit of legal logging?

As a result up to 17 million hectares of forest are estimated to have been protected from degradation and at least 1.2 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions avoided over the last decade. Alternatively, if the trees saved were legally logged this could bring in US$6.5 billion in additional revenues to the countries concerned.

Where are Revival Beds from?

Revival Beds are manufactured from timber that is harvested from 100% managed forests and they are hand build in Nottinghamshire.

Chatsworth Four Poster Bed

Its so easy to put up…it’s a piece of cake.

The usual understanding about achieving a really effective look is this.

“It must be really difficult to get that look, you would need to be an expert” or “I’m no interior decorator, I couldn’t possibly do that” and many other similar comments.

You couldn’t be further from the truth. This is a standard 5’0” Chatsworth four poster and it took no more than ten minutes to arrange the tented canopy and the bed runner. That’s because of the clever use of a couple of brass curtain poles and the skills of the drape makers at Victoria Linen (they already have all the sizes so this look is just a phone call away)

All the fabrics used in this look are from the same Diamante collection; the bed runner, the boudoir of cushions and pillows. The reason for the diamante in the tented roof of the four poster is that if it catches the light properly it looks like glistening stars on a clear night…maybe it’s a good choice for a bridal suite?

This tented design is available in all sizes for any Revival four poster bed.

The County Kerry Four Poster Bed

Breathtaking Opulence

The County Kerry made a grand entrance to our show. This rustic four poster bed was completely transformed into the focal point for a master bedroom.

For full on opulence take a look at these Tester curtains (side and back) in champagne Asina fabric…absolutely breathtaking. These were combined the pair or Tester drapes in a light Plaza fabric to balance the colours and the weights of fabric.

To give the County Kerry some snuggle appeal the bedspread and cushions were in a caramel coloured Marco fabric. The whole look was kept in place with a pair of Oxford pillow shams in chocolate coloured faux suede. Mmmm

Imagine this look in a red or a gold colourway; the possibilities are endless. And remember each four poster drape set is available as seen in the picture, and available for any Revival four poster. Just give us a call on 01777 869669.

Ambassador Four Poster Bed

Ambassador Four Poster Bed

Welcome to the show! This is our first Expo and judging by the response it won’t bed the last.

Visitors have been treated some of the most luxurious four poster beds dressed and draped in fabulous fabrics and lavished with stacks of dreamy pillows and cushions.

To see the four poster beds at there best we had each one dressed with a different look. It’s obvious why this Ambassador four poster is a favorite with Country House Hotels.

The luxurious box pleated pelmet and back curtain is in Mirage fabric; this blends together with a diamond quilted throw in Velencia to create traditional four poster good enough to grace the best room in the house.

All of our four posters are made to order, so when it comes to providing drapes and throws we make sure these can all be made and fitted at the same time.

Even if you’re considering one of our larger 7’0” or 8’0” beds the drape sets and bedding are available through our bespoke service made to measure to your exact requirements.
