WHERE TO GO FOR THE PERFECT WARDROBE

Once up on a time not so long ago Danny and Sally became sad about their house. Over the years their tidy home became bighted by piles of gorgeous clothes and beautiful shoes, expensive shirts and trousers. Sally couldn’t bare the mess or the stress for one more day and decided a new wardrobe was the only answer.

“We’re only buying once so let’s buy the very best wardrobe we can!” declared Danny.

Before setting off to find The Perfect Wardrobe they spoke with the wise old man who warned “Do not buy a Wardrobe without a heart” and gave them each magic spectacles so they might see the wood for the trees.

After a long slow journey they finally reached The Warehouse of the Swedish Giant. All was well…there were many wardrobes in many colours and sizes and prices were good. Danny decided to look through his magic spectacles and quickly realised none were made from the solid wood he wanted in his home. Also he would have to deliver and assemble the wardrobe himself or pay extra.

Sally felt lost so they went to the Store of many Departments inside the town walls. Sally looked at the beautiful wardrobes made from exotic timbers which would look fine in her home. Sally then looked through her magic spectacles and wondered if it was true what she had read about the rain forest and exotic timbers and asked the shop people to reassure her…but they could not.

Danny and Sally were tired and lonely. With still nothing to show they headed for the Shop of Discounts. They had heard the most fantastic tales of wardrobes with three or four doors that could keep everything in Sally’s house neat and tidy.

There in front of their eyes was the wardrobe they had dreamed of; it had drawers inside, shelves for shoes and lots of room for hanging all their beautiful clothes.

A man said it would take twelve weeks as it came from a far off land but they would still have to pay for it today. Suddenly Sally remembered the spectacles and lucky for her she did too because the giant wardrobe would not fit up the stairs or come apart. They couldn’t hide their disappointment and ran home as fast as their legs could carry them.

Back in their untidy home all seemed lost until Sally saw that the postman had delivered the Revival catalogue and there it was…The Perfect Wardrobe.

Buying furniture on-line has a list of obstacles as long as your arm

Up-market furniture is a ‘touchy feely’ business. If you’re after some furniture whether it’s a three piece suite a carpet or a wardrobe chances are you want to see and touch the product, try it for comfort and size. You’ll probably want to go further and make sure the product is up to the mark for quality and that there is some sort of guarantee. Buying furniture on-line has a list of obstacles as long as your arm for both the buyer and the seller to navigate.

It’s not about chat…it’s about TRUSTING the chat

So how come so many furniture businesses are selling so much furniture on-line? Chances are they’re not; simply listing page after page of furniture on-line is not going to be enough.

To engage with your customer you must build up a bank of trust…and that trust has to be more than just a bit sales patter.

Furnishings are a very personal choice so a prospective customer needs to be completely at ease with most if not all these points before they think about parting with a card number.

  • Will I get good value for money
  • Is there a brochure
  • Are here any fabric or wood samples
  • What country is the furniture made
  • Can I see some examples…do they have a show room???
  • am I dealing with made by a good reputable company
  • How long have they been around
  • Do I know anyone else who has this sort of furniture
  • How will it be delivered
  • What if there is a problem…can I return it?

Thirteen beds on permanent display.

We are thrilled to announce that our beautiful new showroom is nearing completion. Until now we have been unable to display more than five beds at once. However with the extended mezzanine we can now put in thirteen beds, lots of accompanying furniture plus, of course, the mattresses – including the new COOLUX collection with built in latex toppers.

50% of people say – “No try no buy”.

The official opening will be some time during December but we can’t keep it a secret too much longer. If you are one of the 50% of people who simply will not buy a bed and mattress until you have tried it out then give us a call and we’ll make you an appointment to visit and get a V.I.P. tour of the beds. You can try all the mattresses see the craftsmanship first hand and get to know the staff that design, make and advise you on Revival Beds.

For 85% the visit clinched it.

Since the ‘pilot’ showroom opened eighteen months ago it’s been the decider for many of our customers. Around 85% of visitors have a successful visit and leave for home with the bed or four poster of their dreams ordered ready for the workshop to make. Call 01777 869669 and book your appointment.

The Lilliput collection – New beds and furniture for the little people in your life

Its all been very exciting this week in the Revival Beds office. Due to the high demand we get for solid wood childrens’ bedroom furniture like our ‘grown-up’ beds and wardrobes, we have now introduced the Lilliput Collection. The little people in Gullivers Travels were skilled in carpentry and cabinet making and made breath-taking minatures for each other but also found themselves having to make larger furniture for their resident ‘giant’… Gulliver.

The Lilliput single bed with storage

Whatever your child’s bedroom décor, our craftsmen (like the craftsmen of Lilliput) can create bedroom furniture to match. Choose from standard colours like the ever-popular cornflower blue or pink – or why not go for beautiful wax finish.

Simply stylish our childrens’ beds and wardrobes are built to last. And because kids love nothing better than to use their beds as a trampoline each  bed features a sturdy wooden base underneath your choice of quality mattress.

The Lilliput bedroom for the little people in your life

We have incorporated drawers into both the bed & the wardrobe so there is plenty of room for all those toys and games as well as clothes – no excuses for an untidy room now!

Guest rooms and guest beds

We also think it’s a great bed for the guest room where space may be a tight but you want a really smart look. The wardrobe is a great size…hanging room and drawers without being too over powering.

Reeves Corner before the riots

It’s not all that many years ago Revival manufactured beds for shops only. Over the years we have sold beds to over 400 different stores from Inverness to Penzance. Things change and now almost all our beds are sold directly to customers and hotels.

The House of Reeves before the August riots

The Reeves Furniture Store in Croydon was one of these stores. I first went there with our London agent Mike Ricketts. Mike was very excited about the Reeves account explaining to me how good it would be for us to supply them. They were number one in the area.

Once there we had a patient wait to see one of the buyers who introduced us to Maurice Reeves who happened to be on the shop floor. What struck me was how totally ‘on the ball’ everything was in an old fashion way. All the main people were on the floor serving customers.

Usually when a family has had its name over the door for 150 years they have other people front of house doing the running around but not the Reeves family.

Don’t forget they actually had a land mark named after them The House of Reeves, Reeves Corner, Croydon; that’s some achievement for a furniture retailer.

Although Revival Beds hasn’t done business with Reeves for quite a few years it was a very sad site to see that wonderful old store going up in flames during the recent riots. I hear they were back trading and serving customers after only a few days – unbelievable; some people have more than there fair share of spirit.

Revival Beds would like to wish the Reeves family the very best of luck with the re-build which shouldn’t take too long as long as the remarkable Reeves family are left to run things.

A fine example of a Made to Measure four poster bed

This Vermont four poster bed started life as an enquiry about our storage beds and how much can they be altered. After a while it became clear that this was a serious bed our clients were after.

A 6’0″ four poster is big to start with and once the under bed storage is added these beds take on a new dimemsion of vastness with around 16.5 cubic feet of storage under the bed our regular beds. But these clients were really throwing down the gauntlet. They wanted double the storage…eight drawers in all.

This raised concerns about the height of the sleep platform (you could quite easily need a step to get in to bed) but our clients were undetered and charged ahead witht the project.

Here it is finished in a dark Walnut  wax the bed looks absolutly amazing. And here is what our clients had to say:

“Hello Revival Beds, we wanted to let you know that we absolutly love the bed and will be sending pictures soon many thanks on getting it just right”.

Kind Regards Natalie B.

A hotel room to remember

County_kerry_four_poster_painted_black

The Kings Arms in Amersham had a recent upgrade which included a black painted County Kerry four poster bed.

The 14th century coaching house has undergone many changes over the years with none more dramatic than this.

Mixing traditional and contemporary influences can be a skill that is easily underestimated but interior designers Curtis Interiors seem to have pulled this off with aplomb.

The easy option would have been to choose from the ‘usual suspects’ of bed suppliers and play it safe.

Not Curtis Interiors, they went for a new twist.

Take a 14th century bedroom a blow the dust right out!

Purple upolstery, black furnishings and no grim light sapping wall finishes. Crown the the whole look with a black painted/lacqured four poster and ‘ding dong’ what a room to remember.

If you need more information on the contract work we have directly or indirectly undertaken give a call 01777 869669 and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Do you know where the timber for your furniture came from?

Let’s face it not many of us do.

Good News

A recent Government report showed that illegal logging is down by between 50 and 75% over the last decade, and consumption of illegal logging was down by around 30%, – this is the timber that is illegally sourced from, and processed in another country.

Sam Lawson, the report’s lead author, made plain that illegal logging remains a major problem despite these impressive gains.

Bad News

“That (50-75%) sounds like a lot; but bear in mind that illegal logging was such a bad problem in those countries that even though it’s reduced substantially, it still is a bad problem. So in Indonesia, for example, 40% of the harvesting is still illegal,” he told BBC News.

The finger seemed to point directly at China and Japan; proposing that they should follow E.U. and U.S. guidelines like the ones that bought about the improvements in countries like Cameroon, Brazilian Amazon, and Indonesia.

The report urges Japan, as the country that imports the highest per-capita amount of illegal wood, to pass similar legislation.

“China is increasingly important [as an importer], but not just for its own consumption,” said Mr Lawson. “It is increasingly acting as a processing country, the factory of the world; so a lot of the illegally sourced wood that ends up in Europe and the US passes through Chinese factories.”

The report urges China, along with fellow “factory of the world” Vietnam, to ban illegal timber imports and mandate a policy that all timber used in government projects is shown to be legally sourced.

What’s the benefit of legal logging?

As a result up to 17 million hectares of forest are estimated to have been protected from degradation and at least 1.2 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions avoided over the last decade. Alternatively, if the trees saved were legally logged this could bring in US$6.5 billion in additional revenues to the countries concerned.

Where are Revival Beds from?

Revival Beds are manufactured from timber that is harvested from 100% managed forests and they are hand build in Nottinghamshire.
