What's more the Parisienne Sleigh bed looks outstanding as a painted bed in Ivory Cream to match La Chambre Bedroom Furniture. These paint finishes are great if you want your bedroom furniture to be informal and charming.

We took a good look at French, painted and Ivory Cream sleigh beds before we started to design and make the Parisienne, so we could add as much style as possible.

Sleigh beds differ from traditional beds like the Mackintosh bed or the Ambassador bed in that they don’t use wooden bed posts. The Parisienne uses what’s called a slab end and the deep sweeping curves from head board to foot board give the distinctive boat shape from which it gets the name ‘Lit Bateau’.

With fine detail like decorative brass plaques and ogee shaped bracket feet the Parisienne ooze’s the sort of qualities that you would expect from a luxury bed of this caliber.

Parisienne beds seem to be most popular as a King size bed or a Super king size bed (5'0" or 6'0") however many customers have the Parisienne in 7'0" or Emperor Size for that extra comfort.

This Sunday Times article goes into great detail on peoples tastes and why they invest in luxury beds, especially antique beds with French and continental designs some of which cost thousands of pounds.

Also pictured is the Parisienne bed with a low foot end or ‘LFE’ and one of the luxury Healthbeds memory flex Mattresses. The popular LFE feature gives the Parisienne a contemporary feel without compromising on the elegance.

Libby's Tips: Beds and bedroom furniture made from solid wood and hand waxed need to be dusted like any other furniture but only need to be re-waxed every six-twelve months. Wax should be applied sparingly with a clean rag or brush and the piece polished with another lint-free cloth. A good shine on these sleigh beds comes from rubbing and buffing well rather than lots of layers of wax. Ivory Cream is one of the five French Life painted finishes that are explained in more detail on the wax and painted finishes page.
